A Possible Ban on Sexist Ads in Sweden
A recent survey by the World Economic Forum ranks Sweden as the world's most gender equal society. Sweden is now engaged in a new debate involving gender equality. A government report out this week urges Sweden to ban all ads that could be considered sexist, saying that sexist advertising affects the shaping of people's identities and goes against Sweden's goals of achieving gender equality. The Association of Swedish Advertisers opposes the ban, claiming the industry's self-regulating mechanisms will weed out sexist ads. The possible ban might go into effect as early as next year.
