A new poll out this week shows Swedes in favor of switching from the Swedish krona to the euro by a slim margin. The survey marks the first time that Swedes who favor the euro outnumber, at least in poll results from Swedish opinion research institute Sifo, commissioned by Sveriges Television (SVT), those against joining the euro zone, with 47 percent of Swedes polled in favor of the euro and 45 percent against the switch from the krona.
Sifo says support of the euro is strongest in the south and cites a weakening krona amid the financial crisis as the main reason for the rising support for the euro.
In 2003, 56 percent of Swedish voters rejected joining the euro zone.
