The Swedish Version of the Oscars

Sweden held its version of the Oscars Monday evening in Stockholm. Before the awards were handed out, I conducted a very unscientific poll on what Swedes thought was the best Swedish film of 2008...

Out of 19 votes (at the time of this writing) in this simple poll, not a single vote was cast for Involuntary/De ofrivilliga, which received nominations in several categories. At the actual awards ceremony, Everlasting Moments/Maria Larssons eviga ögonblick won Best Film, Let the Right One In/Låt den rätte komma in won Best Screenplay, Lies/Lögner won Best Short and Maggie in Wonderland/Maggie vaknar på balkongen won best documentary.

Five of my favorite Swedish films of all time:

"Mitt liv som hund" aka "My Life as a Dog"
"Fanny och Alexander" aka "Fanny and Alexander"
"Änglagård" aka "House of Angels"
"Drömmen om Rita" aka "Dreaming of Rita"
"Salmer fra kjøkkenet" aka "Kitchen Stories" (Norwegian and Swedish)
