The Tour de France is Down to One Swede

One of the two Swedes competing at the 2008, doping-scandal-free Tour de France has made a gracious exit from the race. Magnus Backstedt, the first Swede to win a stage of the Tour de France (in 1998), missed the time cut over the weekend, but not without a fight as you will see from his final video diary from The Tour...

That leaves one Swede to compete at The Tour. Thomas Lövkvist, affectionately called "Gotland" by his fans and friends, will begin Wednesday's Stage 11 (Tuesday is a rest day), the final Pyrenean stage from Lannemezan to Foix, 28 minutes and 36 seconds off the pace at 40th overall. Australia's Cadel Evans will wear the yellow jersey in Stage 11 as the overall leader.
