Brief Update on "Gotland" at Tour de France

Sweden's Thomas Lövkvist, also called Gotland by his friends from Visby and his fans, remains in the "Top 50" in the overall standings at the Tour de France through 12 stages, at 40th overall, 29 minutes and 51 seconds off the pace. He's also in the "Top 10" in the Young Riders category at Number 6.

I'm saddened to say this year's Tour is being overshadowed by doping scandals for a third straight year. Italy’s Riccardo Ricco (a winner of two stages at the 2008 Tour) became the third rider to be ousted Thursday after failing a doping test. Ricco, Spain's Moises Duenas and Manuel Beltran have all tested positive for the performance enhancer EPO.

One more Swedish related sports note:
Two Swedes find themselves in the "Top 10" following Round 1 of the British Open, Peter Hanson and Fredrik Jacobson. They each own a piece of 7th place after carding a first round 71 at Royal Birkdale. They're at 1-over par.
