One of my favorite running routes in Stockholm starts along stately Strandvägen in Östermalm. It follows Strandvägen from Birger Jarlsgatan out to and onto the waterfront path on the southern edge of the Gärdet district. It crosses Djurgårdensbrunnsbron over to the island of Djurgården, skirts the water to the Djurgårdensbron (Djurgården's Bridge), crosses back to Strandvägen and finishes at Birger Jarlsgatan. It's a little more than four miles, nearly 6.6 kilometers. The architecture along Strandvägen, the glassy water and the swans diving into it, the tree lined oasis that is Djurgården and a plethora of Swedes enjoying the same endorphin rush and serene scenery are just a few of the reasons why this is one of my favorites runs in Stockholm. It gives me a good life buzz.
